The Model A was introduced in Feb., 1898, but this is a later version. 1905 "2 Clip" Model A w/patent plate bearing "402966" serial number. ![]() The Edison Company discontinued open horn phonographs (including the Standard) in late 1913. They were made in great quantities and are often the first choice for entry-level cylinder machine collectors today. As tastes and customer demands changed, the model types changed as well. Introduced in early 1898, it proved to be a durable machine that both performed and sold well. The Edison Standard Phonograph was a real breakthrough in the middle range market of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.
